About Me:

I work as a criminal defence lawyer in the GTA. My interest in Criminal Law stems from a field trip to the local courthouse when I was in high school. Initially, I was hesitant to pursue a legal career as I often heard many subtle statements and jokes referring to lawyers as ‘professional liars’ and ‘crooks cloaked in the veil of justice’. However, by interacting with lawyers at the courthouse I learned that lawyers play a critical role in ensuring justice prevails. Defence lawyers are there to represent the accused’s interest by ensuring they are not arbitrarily charged, that their rights have been respected, and that sufficient weight is attributed to all relevant factors. With my misconceptions put to rest, I committed myself to my ambition of becoming a lawyer with more enthusiasm than before.
Although it can be exhilarating to appear in court and represent a client’s interest, a criminal lawyer’s duties extend to much more than that. It generally begins with reviewing hundreds, if not thousands, of pages of evidence followed by conducting legal research on intricate issues that may arise throughout the proceedings. One may also be required to draft written arguments for any applications brought forward.
Moreover, a criminal lawyer must always be available as they may be contacted for advice by their clients at any time. When an individual is charged, they have the right to consult with a lawyer regarding their rights and the charge they are facing. As such, a criminal lawyer's job is not only limited to attending court and making submissions but also serving as a consultant to those who may not be aware of their rights. Nonetheless, it is a very interesting area of work where you witness a wide variety of people in different circumstances and different precipitants leading them to their situation.
Feel free to reach out to me should you have an interest and/or have any questions regarding law/criminal law.
