About Me:
Elaha Musakheel received a Bachelor of Arts in Global Studies (Honours) from Wilfrid Laurier University in 2018. She went on to pursue higher education and received a Master of Arts in International Relations from McMaster University and a second Masters in International Public Policy from the Balsillie School of International Affairs. Her Major Research Paper focused on the violation(s) of international humanitarian law in Afghanistan via foreign intervention by the U.S. Army. During her undergraduate and graduate studies, she conducted research and policy recommendations for STAND Canada and an NGO located in Sierra Leone that focused on the lack of accessibility to food faced by disadvantaged groups. Elaha is extremely passionate about human security and the way in which conflict has contributed to the continuous displacement and marginalization of civilians. With her recent completion of her Master’s she has obtained an internship with the City of Waterloo as a Junior Research and Economic Development Analyst. Her day to day tasks includes conducting rigorous research regarding the impact of COVID-19 on small businesses and assisting with the development of a financial toolkit to regenerate economic prosperity. In addition, she has been tasked with projects regarding the enhancement of the city’s Community Improvement Plan (CIP) and the merging of the public and private sector. Elaha hopes to further gain experience within the public service to use policy development as a tool to amplify the voices of disadvantageous groups.
